Science
At Allerton C of E Primary School we use the pupils’ natural curiosity to ask questions, investigate and demonstrate the attitudes of scientific working. Our planning ensures coverage of the scientific knowledge prescribed in the National Curriculum, and practise of the skills required to work as a scientist.
We teach children to communicate ideas using appropriate scientific language and how to evaluate their findings and suggest explanations. We also find learning opportunities to improve our Maths and English skills through our scientific work.
We celebrate and enjoy Science through practical investigations, an annual Science Week and also make good use of our excellent school environment, local High School laboratories, parents who share their expertise, and resources further afield such as trips by all year groups. Year 6 attend scientific events at Leeds University to both increase aspirations and introduce the possibility of careers in the Sciences.
