Our School Library
Our school library is at the heart of our reading community and is a truly unique and inspiring space that nurtures a lifelong love of reading. Designed around the magical world of The Chronicles of Narnia, the library captures children's imaginations from the moment they arrive.
One of the library's most exciting features is its secret entrance, hidden behind a wardrobe, allowing children to step into a reading world inspired by Narnia. This immersive environment helps create a sense of wonder and adventure, encouraging children to see reading as an enjoyable and meaningful experience.
Led by our full-time Librarian, Helen Whiteley and supported by pupil librarians, the library offers a wide range of high-quality fiction, non-fiction, poetry, graphic novels and diverse texts that reflect different cultures, experiences and perspectives. Regular audits ensure that our collection remains representative, accessible and engaging for all children.
Every class visits the library weekly, where pupils can enjoy story sessions, participate in book discussions and borrow books to read at home. Library time encourages children to talk about books, recommend favourites to their peers and develop confidence as readers.
Families are also encouraged to enjoy our library through regular family library sessions before and after school. These sessions provide opportunities for parents and carers to share books with their children, receive guidance on supporting reading at home and discover new books together. Additional sessions are available to support families who may benefit from extra opportunities to engage with reading.
The library extends beyond bookshelves to become a hub for creativity, discussion and community engagement. Author visits, reading events, competitions and links with local libraries and bookshops help children see themselves as part of a wider reading community.
Our library has received national recognition for its engaging environment and commitment to reading. During a recent visit, children's author and educator Mr P described it as "the coolest school library I've seen on my travels visiting schools all over the country," praising both its design and the inspiring atmosphere it creates for young readers. He highlighted the library as a vibrant space that inspires creativity, exploration and a love of reading.
Through our truly unique library, we aim to ensure that every child develops the confidence, enthusiasm and motivation to become a lifelong reader, discovering new worlds every time they open a book.
