Believe In Excellence

Languages

At Allerton C of E Primary School, we aim for children to develop a love of language learning from an early age. Learning languages can have beneficial effects on monolingual children’s awareness of languages and enhances their natural curiosity. Commencing in Early Years Foundation Stage and KS1, children have exposure to language lessons and develop some cultural awareness.  In Key Stage 2, a regular programme of study is followed whereby Spanish is taught in years 3 and 4, and French is taught in years 4 and 5.  Such ‘priming’ can then lead to an enhanced readiness to learn other languages at a later stage and can help foster positive attitudes towards other languages and cultures.

With over 50 languages spoken by our families, we have children who show real aptitude for learning MfL.
