INSPIRATIONAL LEEDS HEADTEACHER HONOURED IN PRESTIGIOUS UK CELEBRATION OF TEACHING
Tue 07 Jun 2022On Thursday, 26 May, Helen Stott, Headteacher at Allerton CE Primary School was named as one of 80 Pearson National Teaching Award Silver Award winners across the country. Helen Stott is honoured with a Silver Award in the Headteacher of the Year in a Primary School category for her outstanding commitment to changing the lives of the children they work with every day.
Helen has shown throughout her 30-year career a burning passion that the Arts are not the additional advantage of the privileged but a right for every young citizen. She is a strong, inspirational, and open leader with the courage to take risks, always with a smile, and the tenacity to see projects through to fruition.
Justice and opportunity for every child is at the heart of what Helen has dedicated her time and energies to over the years. She is their voice when their voice is not heard. Helen has thoughtfully and creatively transformed her school from 200 children to just over 700. Her vision for Allerton CE Primary has made it the school it is today: flourishing, dynamic and striving for the very best.
As a Silver Award winner, Helen Stott has now been shortlisted to win one of just 16 Gold Awards later in the year. Recognition of this once in a lifetime achievement will be broadcast on the BBC’s The One Show as part of a week-long celebration of teaching, which sees famous faces honour award winners every night in the run up to the ceremony. This is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the exceptional school leaders and teachers who have worked wonders to bring together their local communities despite the challenges of the past few years.
The Silver Award winners are being honoured as part of the wider celebrations for national ‘Thank a Teacher Day’, bringing together everyone across the country to celebrate the schools and colleges at the heart of our communities.
The Pearson National Teaching Awards is an annual celebration of excellence in education, founded in 1998 by Lord Puttnam to recognise the life-changing impact an inspirational teacher can have on the lives of the young people they work with. This year marks its 23rd year of celebrating our school teaching staff across the UK.
Paul Matthias, National Director at Hays Education, said: “Working in placing thousands of education professionals across the country – we know that the right school leader is essential to the success of a school and the wellbeing of its students. Helen Stott has received one of the highest accolades a head can receive, and it’s obvious from the feedback how much she deserves it.”

Walk with Amal - messages of love, hope and togetherness
Tue 07 Jun 2022Amal is a 3.5m high puppet who represents all displaced children. In 2021, 10 year old Amal embarked on a remarkable journey that took her from the Syrian border across Turkey, across Europe. In search of her mother. To get back to school. To start a new life. Amal travelled over 8,000km embodying the urgent message “Don’t forget about us”. To date little Amal has travelled through 70 cities and she has been welcomed at more than 160 unique events, reaching 875,000 people in the 12 countries she has already visited, and millions more online.
Now she takes her next steps…
In June 2022, one year on from leaving Syria, Amal will take part in World Refugee Week by visiting 10 towns and cities across England, meeting old friends and making new ones. Amal will arrive in Leeds on Monday the 20th June in the early evening.
So that children of Leeds have the opportunity to give Amal a warm welcome, they have created a simple flower template and are asking children to decorate the petals with messages of love, hope and togetherness. Completed petals will then be used to create Yorkshire roses, which will be presented to Amal.

Year 3 debate
Fri 27 May 2022Thursday was a very special day because it was National Thank a Teacher Day and our headteacher Mrs Stott won Silver award in the Headteacher of the Year awards. We were so proud! To celebrate Year 3 held a debate on whether thanking a headteacher is important which you can view here.

ACE Children attend Bradford (Park Avenue) V Darlington Football Match
Fri 06 May 2022It was fantastic to see the children and parents from Allerton C of E Primary School attend the Bradford (Park Avenue) game against Darlington. Moving forward we are keen to provide more of these opportunities to come and experience live football. We really hope the children enjoyed their afternoon with us.
