Bad Weather
Bad Weather – Information for Parents
The safety of our pupils and staff is always our first priority. During periods of bad weather, we aim to keep the school open wherever it is safe to do so. This page explains how decisions are made and how parents will be kept informed.
School Closure Decisions
The decision to close the school, delay opening, or make changes to the school day due to bad weather (for example snow, ice, flooding, or high winds) is made by the Headteacher in consultation with senior staff and site management.
Each situation is assessed individually, taking into account:
- Safety of pupils, staff, and visitors
- Conditions on site (including access routes and playgrounds)
- Availability of staff
- Local weather forecasts and advice
How Parents Will Be Informed
If the school needs to close, open late, or make any other arrangements due to bad weather, parents will be informed as soon as possible via:
- The school website
Email to parents
Leeds City Council School Closures Page
Please check messages carefully before travelling to school in severe weather conditions.
During the School Day
If worsening weather occurs during the school day, we will assess whether it is safer for pupils to remain in school or to be collected early. Parents will be contacted if early collection is required.
Attendance in Bad Weather
We understand that bad weather can make travel difficult. Parents should use their judgment when deciding whether it is safe for their child to travel to school.
Keeping Informed
Parents are encouraged to:
- Ensure the school has up‑to‑date contact details
- Dress children appropriately for cold or wet weather
Monitor weather forecasts where severe conditions are predicted
